Xiaomi presents Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro smartphones
Xiaomi has presented the 13 and 13 Pro, its first two smartphones with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 soc. The phones are slightly more expensive in Chinese currency than their predecessors, but that does not mean that they will also be more expensive when released in Europe.
Xiaomi presented two models: there is no Ultra that is more expensive than the Pro and last year’s 12X has not yet received a successor. This is especially noticeable for the X version, because Xiaomi presented it last year at the same time as the 12 and 12 Pro.
The Xiaomi 13 has a slightly shorter, but wider housing than its predecessor. At 6.36″, the screen is also slightly larger than the 6.28″ display of its predecessor. At 15.2×7.1cm it is relatively compact for a modern telephone. Among the cameras, there is a slightly larger primary camera, but the difference is not large. The camera with a telephoto lens has slightly more magnification. Many other specs have remained virtually the same.
The 13 Pro has the 1″ sensor from the primary camera of the 12S Ultra. That is a significant upgrade compared to the 12 Pro. The camera with telephoto lens has more magnification, just like the 13, and amounts to 3x zoom compared to of the primary camera. The battery has slightly more capacity.
According to Xiaomi, the phones also have more cooling, which means the batteries should last a little longer. The SoC is the recently presented Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Xiaomi has therefore not opted for the MediaTek Dimensity 9200. The phones have lpddr5x memory and UFS 4.0 storage.
The devices arrive from China this week, well in time for Chinese New Year in February next year. In recent years, a release in Europe followed only afterwards, around March. The manufacturer has not said anything about this yet. The recommended retail prices in Chinese yuan are slightly higher than last year, probably because many components have become more expensive. Chinese pay 3999 yuan for the Xiaomi 13, 300 yuan more than the 12. Converted to euros, prices are lower than last year due to the differences in the values of both currencies.
