DJI announces Mini 3 drone with 38 minutes flight time and 1/1.3″ sensor
Chinese drone manufacturer DJI has announced the DJI Mini 3. This is a cheaper variant of the Mini 3 Pro, which was released earlier this year. The Mini 3 weighs 249 grams and has a 1/1.3″ sensor, just like the Pro version.
The camera of the Mini 3, like that of the Mini 3 Pro, has a 1/1.3″ sensor and an aperture of f/1.7. As a result, the camera should let in more light than the Mini 2 with a 1/2.3″. ” sensor and an aperture of f/2.8. The drone can film in 4K HDR in combination with a maximum of 30fps or in Full HD with a maximum of 60fps. In addition, the drone can take 12-megapixel photos. The DJI Mini 3 Pro, on the other hand, can film a maximum of 4k/60 or 1080p/120. The Mini 3 does not use the newer O3 Air Unit from the Mini 3 Pro. The available DJI O2 video transmission can provide a 720p/30fps live feed with a maximum distance of 10km.
The DJI Mini 3 does not support ActiveTrack, a feature that is present on the Mini 3 Pro and some other drones from the brand. The function was also not available on the Mini 2. Objects and people can be tracked with ActiveTrack. The Hyperlapse function is also missing. However, the True Vertical Shooting of the Mini 3 Pro is available, where the gimbal can rotate 90 degrees to create content for social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
According to DJI the Mini 3 has a maximum flight time of 38 minutes, although this can be increased to a maximum of 51 minutes with an Intelligent Flight Battery Plus. This battery is officially only for sale outside Europe. With the Mini 2, the maximum flight time was 31 minutes and the battery of the DJI Mini 3 Pro is good for a maximum of 34 minutes.
The recommended retail price of the DJI Mini 3 is 489 euros for the drone alone. This option is intended for users who already have a compatible controller at home. The Mini 3 and a DJI RC-N1 controller together cost 579 euros. The drone is also available including a DJI RC controller. The most expensive package, a Fly More combo including RC controller, spare propellers, two extra batteries and other accessories, is available for 938 euros.
