‘OPPO will launch its own smartphone SoC in 2024’

Leaker Ice Universe claims that Chinese smartphone manufacturer OPPO will introduce its own smartphone SoC in 2024. The internal business division, which is responsible for the development of the chip, would have thousands of employees.

No details are known about the specifications of the soc and Ice Universe doesn’t tell either which segment of the smartphone market OPPO wants to serve with this SoC.

The leaker’s claims are similar to previous rumors from ITHome. This tech website also stated at the beginning of this year that OPPO is working on its own SoC for smartphones. According to ITHome, OPPO would have the SoC made at TSMC using a 6nm process. The Chinese manufacturer would first start with SoCs for cheaper smartphones. Later it would also want to compete with high-end SoCs. In 2021, the Asian Nikkei also reported that OPPO is working on its own chips. According to sources the business newspaper was able to speak to at the time, it was about high-end SoCs that would be produced using a 3nm process from TSMC.
