Developer Massive Entertainment is currently unable to release new content for The Division 2 due to problems with the build generation system. The company must first recreate that build system before the game can receive updates.

The new season of loot shooter Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 had already been postponed due to a ‘localization problem’, something that developer Massive wanted to solve last weekend. However, this went wrong on Saturday, meaning the build generation system no longer works. “We cannot update the game until this system is rebuilt,” said the developer.

The build generation system is a collection of systems and scripts that builds a game with the source code and assets, a developer explains to PC Gamer. The senior developer says that companies normally have a backup for this, which Massive does not seem to have.

Due to the problem, Massive was initially unable to extend the current season, which meant that certain events would no longer be playable and that the game would therefore temporarily have less content. In the meantime Massive was able to release a server-side update which extended the previous season. It is not clear whether all problems with the build generation system have been resolved. Massive promises to compensate players for the postponement of the new season. The Division 2 was released in 2019 for Windows, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
