Upcoming Suicide Squad game also requires internet connection for single-player
Rocksteady’s upcoming third-person action game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League requires a constant internet connection during play, including single-player. Publisher Warner Bros. explains why that is. Games unknown.
That writes the publisher on the game’s website. “An internet connection is required to play Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League solo and in online co-op.” An earlier game from the same publisher, Back 4 Blood, faced the same situation. That game eventually got an offline solo mode thanks to an update about two months after release.
The requirement for an internet connection where it is not strictly necessary is off-putting to many people. Such conditions are not actually necessary for the game to function; Things like AI and physics calculations are almost never done in the cloud in practice, so the Ethernet cable can most likely just be pulled out during solo gameplay.
While it wouldn’t hurt for many to leave the Ethernet cable alone, critics fear that the game’s servers will go offline in the future because the costs no longer outweigh the benefits. Without an update to the game it will no longer be playable.
On Thursday, Sony presented its first State of Play presentation from this year. It shows several upcoming games. Suicide Squad was also present, with 6 minutes of footage of co-op gameplay. The game will be released on May 26 this year for Windows and the current generation of Xbox and PlayStation. Developer Rocksteady is known for the Batman: Arkham games.
