Nvidia acknowledges bug in GeForce driver 531.18 that results in higher CPU consumption
Nvidia acknowledges a bug in its latest GeForce GPU drivers, which results in higher CPU consumption. The company has added the bug to its list of known issues. It is not known when Nvidia will come up with a solution.
The bug is in Nvidia Game Ready driver version 531.18, which was released last week and introduced, among other things, RTX Video Super Resolution. After the update, the driver can consume more than ten percent of the CPU after logging in or closing games, noted The Verge journalist Tom Warren.
Nvidia acknowledges the problem on his forum, where the bug has been added to the list of known issues. The GPU maker says that the problem can cause ‘higher CPU consumption by the Nvidia container after closing games’. For example, a user reports on the Nvidia forum that the driver used fifteen percent of its CPU. The company gives no indication of when it will release a hotfix. The problem can be solved in the meantime by installing an old driver.
if you’re noticing high CPU usage from Nvidia’s latest drivers (531.18) you’re not alone. Seems to be a bug with the latest drivers where Nvidia container uses 10%+ CPU after logon or after closing games. Rolling back to previous drivers will fix
