Kobo is still working on Pocket support for its e-readers
From August 15, Kobo e-readers will not lose the option to save and open articles via Pocket. Kobo says it is working on a way to log in with a Firefox account.
This week it was announced that Kobo will release an update for its e-readers that will remove Pocket functionality because the devices do not support the required technology for a Firefox account login. In a comment opposite The Verge Kobo now states that this is not correct. A login option is reportedly being worked on. Also on the Pocket support page In the meantime, the adjusted information is displayed.
However, no release date for support has yet been announced, which means that new users may temporarily not be able to access Pocket in certain situations. After August 15, new users must log in with a Firefox account, so only when Kobo has implemented the feature will they also be able to use article storage via Pocket after that date.
Nothing will change for existing users; they will continue to have access to Pocket through their existing account. If a user would like to switch to a Firefox account, an update must be installed on the e-reader. It is not clear whether an automatic update could cause problems for existing customers.
Pocket is a service that can save articles and other web texts so that users can read them later. In addition, it can remove the layout of the website, which should improve reading ease and remove distractions. On Kobo e-readers, the Pocket Reading experience looks the same as when users read an e-book.
