OpenAI acquires company from former Instagram employees

ChatGPT maker OpenAI has acquired Digital Illumination, a company founded by and partly consisting of former Instagram employees.

All eight employees come to work for OpenAI, the company reports. It is unknown what exactly OpenAI wants with the expertise of its employees. Founder Thomas Dimson worked for Instagram until 2020 and was, among other things, behind the algorithmic feed. In the field of AI he made, among other things ThisWordDoesNotExist. Digital Illumination also worked on the browser game Biomes. It is unknown what OpenAI will pay for the acquisition.
