Screenshots show new Action Center UI and taskbar in Windows 10 update
New images have surfaced of a potentially new UI for Windows 10. The new design appears to be heavily inspired by Windows 10X, which has since been halted in development. The design may end up in the upcoming Windows 10 release.
The new designs are seen in previews of Windows 10. They aren’t live yet, but Windows Latest notes that they can be invoked by customizing WindowsShellExperienceHost in Visual Studio. In a current preview you can already see that the Action Center of Windows 10 will get a different appearance. The rest of the OS seems to go along with that. What is new is that the action center will have a slider with which different settings can be pulled from bottom to top.
The new design elements can also be seen in the taskbar. The popup that comes when users right click will float in the new design and get lighter colors. Also, the corners of both pop-ups and the dialog box have been rounded for a more modern look. Many design elements would have already been in Windows 10X, a lightweight OS for dual-screen devices. Earlier this month it appeared that Microsoft may have stopped development.
Windows Latest states that the new design will most likely be in the upcoming Windows 10 update. That Sun Valley update, 21H2, should be out sometime in the coming months. In a few weeks, Microsoft’s developer conference Build will take place. The company is expected to show the new version of the OS.
