Video from Android 12 shows stacked widgets
A new leak of a presentation from Google shows a new interface for Android 12. It shows how especially the widgets of the operating system change significantly, including stacked widgets like in the recent iOS.
The leak comes from Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech. He saw a short video that Google may show at its annual I/O developer conference, which takes place on Tuesday. In that video you can see a slide showing the new UX and UI of Android 12. The slide shows, among other things, how widgets are stacked. Some of the same notifications, such as calendar events, are grouped together, and a user can tap them to see them all. That’s visually very similar to how Apple displays notification widgets since iOS 14.
Also new is the way notifications are displayed in the notification bar. This is done with a single icon in the form of a pill at the top right of the screen. It shows how many notifications a user has. If the user clicks on it, he will see all existing notifications.
Android 12 will also get a completely different UI, according to the video. The design of widgets and icons seems more minimalistic and the corners are more rounded throughout. There are also more effects to be seen when selecting icons and widgets, especially transition effects. Also the keyboard changes and the lock screen gets a different clock.
The changes will most likely be shown at the upcoming Google I/O on Tuesday evening.
