The respective test versions of the operating system, together with the other Insider channels, are always the first to see changes. Via the Microsoft Store, the company has now discontinued support for the voice assistant Cortana in some test builds of the OS through an update for the standalone Cortana app, according to XDA Developers.

In a blog post Microsoft explains that the company will stop supporting the voice assistant app from the beginning of August. Cortana, on the other hand, can still be used via other company services, including via ‘Outlook mobile, Teams mobile, Microsoft Teams display and Microsoft Teams rooms’.

Access to Cortana is also expected to be slowly but surely closed there. Microsoft says it is focusing on various systems that use AI. For example, users can also use a kind of digital assistant via Bing and Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Since 2020, Microsoft has been phasing out Cortana. For example, the company stopped supporting all third-party devices and software that run Cortana. Cortana’s iOS and Android apps and the version of the voice assistant for Surface headphones are also no longer available.
