Twitter will change name to X and logo
Twitter is permanently changing its name to X. The website X.com already refers to the social network and the logo of the app will change, say owner Elon Musk and CEO Linda Yaccarino. What the name change actually means remains unclear.
Linda Yaccarino, who has been CEO of the company since last month, says in a tweet that ‘X is there’. Owner Elon Musk has changed his Twitter avatar in a new logo and that logo is now also in place projected onto headquarters. Musk said earlier that the Twitter brand name and the logo with the Twitter bird will eventually disappear. The logo is then replaced by a new logo with an X on it.
It is not yet known what the name change will mean in practice. CEO Yaccarino writes in a series of tweets something about ‘transformation’, ‘unlimited interactivity around audio, video, messaging and payments’, ‘a marketplace for ideas’ and ‘fulfilling potential’, but concrete examples of how the platform will change in the future are missing. Musk has said in the past that Twitter should become an “everything app,” with descriptions that make the app look like a version of WeChat.
The name change is not entirely unexpected. Musk transferred Twitter to X Corp in April, a holding company that also includes the recently founded X AI. Also Yaccarino says AI will be integrated into Xbut again without mentioning anything concrete.
