MediaTek Dimensity 900-soc with 5G supports 120Hz displays and 108Mp cameras
MediaTek has introduced the Dimensity 900, a 6nm octacore that supports Lpddr5, UFS 3.1 and Wi-Fi 6. The soc gets a 5G modem and can display FHD+ images with a refresh rate of 120Hz. Smartphones with the soc will appear in this quarter.
The MediaTek Dimensity 900 has two Arm Cortex A78 cores clocked at up to 2.4GHz and six Arm Cortex A55 cores at up to 2GHz. In addition, there is an Arm Mali G68 MC4 gpu and an apu for AI tasks. The Dimensity 900-soc can handle screens with a resolution of up to 2560×1080 pixels and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz.
The soc supports both Lpddr4x and Lpddr5 memory and UFS 2.1 and UFS 3.1 storage. The chipset can handle up to four cameras, with the sensor of the main camera being a maximum of 108-megapixel resolution. Video can be recorded by the soc at a maximum of 4k resolution.
Although the Dimensity 900 has an integrated 5G modem, there is no full spectrum support. High mmWave frequencies are not supported by the soc. MediaTek does have a separate 5G modem with mmWave support in its range.
The Dimensity 900 modem can handle two SIM cards and supports, among other things, two carrier aggregation to enable a smoother transition between 5G networks. MediaTek does not report in which midrange smartphones the Dimensity 900 soc will appear, but says the first devices with the soc will be released this quarter.
