Corsair wants to acquire mechanical keyboard maker Drop

Corsair acquires part of Drop. That company, formerly Massdrop, sells various products and makes mechanical keyboards. The acquisition includes ‘certain assets’ of Drop, but the two companies did not elaborate on this. Drop remains a separate brand under Corsair.

“Drop has been acquired by Corsair”, writes Drop CEO Jef Holove on Monday. Corsair clarified in its press release that the company is taking over ‘certain assets’ from Drop, without going into specific details. In its press release, Corsair mentions Drop’s keyboards, keycaps and desktop accessories. The two companies did not disclose financial details of the deal.

After the acquisition, Drop will remain a separate brand within Corsair, which says it wants to continue to build on the mechanical keyboards that Drop makes. Corsair owns companies such as Elgato, Origin and SCUF; products from those companies also all have their own brand names. Drop will also continue to handle warranties and customer service questions from existing customers.

Drop, formerly known as Massdrop, sells various products. The company sells headphones in collaboration with Sennheiser, Hifiman and AKG. However, Drop is best known for its DIY keyboards and keyboard parts such as keycaps and switches. The company has designed several of its own keycap sets in collaboration with well-known designers such as MiTo. The manufacturer also released keycaps in collaboration with Marvel and The Lord of the Rings, among others.
