Spotify is cutting off customers who pay through Apple
Music streaming service Spotify is cutting off customers who pay via the Apple App Store. Taking out a subscription via the App Store has not been possible for years, but existing subscriptions have continued until now.
Customers could subscribe for several years via an in-app purchase, reports Variety. Now Spotify has sent those customers an email informing them that the subscription will automatically stop at the end of the month. Customers will be returned to the streaming service’s free subscription. You could take out a subscription via the App Store until 2019.
Spotify confirms the move to the site. “These actions ensure we can continue to provide a consistent, best-in-class subscription experience to all our users.” Spotify has had a conflict with Apple for years about the manufacturer’s monopoly over the App Store and the high payment for developers. Spotify now still pays fifteen percent of the subscription price to Apple for subscriptions taken out years ago.
