Blizzard charges $35 for WoW: The Burning Crusade Classic character clones
Blizzard has announced that World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Classic will be released on June 1, 2021. If you want to activate clones of your character in both Classic and The Burning Crusade Classic, you pay $35.
Blizzard explains that a pre-patch for the Burning Crusade Classic expansion will be released on May 18. Players starting Battle.net then have to make a choice whether they want to continue with Burning Crusade Classic or WoW Classic. Those who opt for the new expansion will remain on the Blizzard Progression Servers and will gain access to new functionality, the higher level cap of 70, the Blood Elves and Draenei and better matchmaking in Arena mode.
Those who want to stay with Classic will move to the Classic Era servers, with no expansion, will continue to keep level cap 60 and World of Warcraft as it originally appeared. Blizzard also offers the option to clone characters to play in both WoW Classic and The Burning Crusade Classic. Blizzard then takes a snapshot of a character as it was just before the release of the pre-patch, including items in the inventory and friend list. Deactivation of a clone is not possible.
If you want to activate cloning in both versions of the game, you have to pay for this. World of Warcraft Classic and World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Classic are both part of a paid subscription. Blizzard charges $35 on top of that to users with clones in both games, to the dismay of some users, who complain about the amount on Reddit, among others.
Blizzard announced The Burning Crusade Classic in February. World of Warcraft itself appeared on the market in 2004, The Burning Crusade in 2007. Blizzard released the Classic version of the game in 2019 for players who wanted to play the mmo in its original form.
