Nintendo delivered 28.8 million Switch consoles and 230.9 million games in one year

Nintendo shipped 28.8 million Switch consoles in its last financial year. This brings the total number to 84.6 million. 230.9 million Switch games were also delivered between April 2020 and March 2021. The numbers are much higher than expected.

In February, Nintendo had revised its expectations upwards. The Japanese manufacturer then thought to close the year with 26.5 million Switch copies and 205 million games delivered. These figures are considerably higher, according to the publication of the latest quarterly figures. Shipments of Switch consoles and games were also much higher than in the previous fiscal year. This is an increase of 37.1 percent in console deliveries and 36.8 percent in games.

Like other game companies, Nintendo is benefiting from the rapidly growing game market as a result of the corona pandemic, which means that people spend a lot of time at home. Nintendo’s annual sales increased 34.4 percent and net profit was 85.7 percent higher.

In total, Nintendo has now shipped 84.6 million Switch consoles, of which 14.7 million are Lite ones. Nintendo expects to ship an additional 25.5 million Switch consoles in the next fiscal year, bringing the total to more than 100 million. Nintendo does not mention the arrival of a new model in the documents. The manufacturer expects to deliver 190 million games next year.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons was the most successful Nintendo game this year. 20.9 million copies were delivered. The game was released a little over a year ago and the total number of copies delivered now stands at 32.6 million units. Only Mario Kart 8 Deluxe does better with 35.4 million copies, but that game has been out for a while. The game sold 10.6 million copies in the past financial year. Nintendo sold 9 million copies of Super Mario 3D All-Stars.

In the past fiscal year, there were 22 Nintendo games that were shipped more than a million times each. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a game that appeared in 2017, was delivered almost 5 million copies. The total number of Switch games delivered to date is 587.1 million.
