It took a while, but after Voyager and Enterprise, a new chapter in the Star Trek series has now started, called Discovery. The first two episodes are now available to watch on Netflix.

The last episode of Star Trek Enterprise aired in 2005. That year, the series was cut off at the end of its fourth season. To get there, the series has come a long way since the original Star Trek episodes aired in the late 1960s. The new series, which is being produced by CBS, is a prequel to the original series and is set ten years earlier. The episodes come from Bryan Fuller, known for series such as Hannibal and American Gods.

As The Verge points out, Star Trek: Discovery doesn’t focus on the captain of a starship, but instead centers on an officer named Michael Burnham. That role is played by the actress Sonequa Martin-Green. Fuller would often give female characters male names in his works. There would also be a reason for the naming in the story of the series itself.

The series’ different approach would also be reflected in a redesign of the Klingons, with a new look and equipment. The story of Discovery revolves around a war between the Federation and the Klingons, who were in alliance for a long time.
