Rumor: Apple adds A10X mobile soc to new Apple TV
The upcoming Apple TV with 4k support, which will probably be presented by Apple on Tuesday, may get the mobile A10X as a soc. This most powerful mobile chip from Apple is included in the latest iPad Pro.
The addition of this mobile soc turns out according to programmer Steven Troughton-Smith from studying the firmware, 9to5Mac reports. With this A10X as a soc, the new Apple TV becomes a powerful media player, which may also be used for playing games.
With the addition of A10X-soc, the device can probably also play images in 4k resolution at 60fps. Apple’s new media player will probably get 3GB of RAM. Earlier there were already rumors with further details about the media player. The device probably supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision HDR formats.
With the A10X, the new media player becomes a lot more powerful than the Apple TV that came out in 2015 with an A8 soc. The A10X, which came out in 2017, has twice the processing power of the A8 and the GPU is about three times as powerful. Compared to the A9 from the iPhone 6S, the A10X is about forty percent faster in terms of computing power. The A10X is baked at 10nm, has 8MB of L2 cache, but no L3 cache. The chip has three Fusion processors with two cores each, which run at a maximum of 2.36GHz.
