DigiTimes: Motherboard deliveries continue to fall
According to sources the Taiwanese newspaper DigiTimes, deliveries of motherboards worldwide continue to decline. In 2017, about 45 million copies would be delivered. Last year there were just under 50 million.
The drop in deliveries is due to lower demand for motherboards in China, the newspaper said. In 2013, 75 million motherboards would have been delivered worldwide, partly due to high demand in China. The Taiwanese newspaper relies on sources from the supply chain. DigiTimes is known for its reliable resources in the industry, many motherboard manufacturers are from Taiwan.
Gigabyte would expect to ship less than 13 million motherboards this year. Newspaper sources state that this is due to increasing competition from Asus. DigiTimes does not provide details about deliveries from other motherboard manufacturers. Manufacturers themselves do not disclose specific details about this.
