Lenovo announces budget smartphone in India with stock Android and large battery
Lenovo has presented the K8 Plus smartphone in India. The device runs on stock Android with few adjustments from the manufacturer and has a 4000mAh battery. The smartphone runs on a MediaTek Helio P25 soc.
The K8 Plus measures 147.9×73.7x9mm and has a 5.2″ LCD with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The Helio P25 has eight Cortex A53 processor cores, the fastest of which reach 2.6GHz. The GPU is a Mali-T880MP2 at 900MHz.There are variants with 3GB and 4GB of lpddr3 memory. The storage is 32GB and is expandable with a microSD card. The device has a total of three slots: in addition to the memory card, also two SIM slots.
A dual camera can be found on the metal back above the fingerprint scanner. The primary camera is a 13-megapixel sensor from OmniVision’s Purecel Plus series with an f/2.0 lens. Samsung’s secondary camera is only for estimating depth and has a resolution of five megapixels. The front camera has a maximum resolution of eight megapixels.
Lenovo claims that it delivers ‘pure Android’ with the K8 Plus. The manufacturer has probably adjusted things; for example, the device contains support for Dolby Atmos audio, for which presumably settings are in the firmware. There is also a separate music button on the housing.
The device will go on sale in India for 10,999 rupees, which is currently about 145 euros. It is unknown if and when the smartphone will appear in the Benelux. Lenovo has regularly released smartphones in the Benelux under its own name, of which the P2 is the best known.
