PUBG may get free PC version with less heavy system requirements

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds may get a free-to-play version with lower system requirements. It concerns PUBG Lite, a version of the battle royale shooter that can currently only be played in Thailand as a test.

PUBG Corp., the company behind the game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, reports that a beta test of PUBG Lite is currently only available in Thailand. The studio says this test is “to determine if this is a suitable product for other regions.”

The goal of PUBG Lite, according to the creator, is to bring the “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds experience” to players in areas where the availability of the necessary hardware makes it difficult to meet the system requirements of the regular game version.

The studio says it has lowered hardware requirements “without lowering quality standards.” According to the company, this means that PUBG Lite is also playable on computers and laptops with only integrated GPUs.

PUBG Lite is free to play and the beta for now only includes the original map Erangel, with options for players to play solo, in duos or groups of four. Players can only play in a third-person perspective.
