Rumor: Fortnite is getting a spectator mode
Fortnite Battle Royale may get a new mode that allows players to watch matches of others as a spectator. That reports a YouTube user based on an email that would come from Epic Games.
The Fortnite Insider website reports that YouTube user BlueNightEdgar states that he received an email from Epic Games. In it, the game company invites players to a private Fortnite event to take place in Los Angeles in early February. The purpose of the event is to play rounds to help Epic Games test “unreleased spectator features.”
Epic Games has not yet officially confirmed these plans for a spectator mode. Furthermore, it is unclear whether such a mode will eventually become available for all players or whether the mode can only be used during events. Fortnite currently doesn’t have a spectator mode, so players won’t be able to watch their friends battle while waiting for the round to end.
The spectator mode test event will take place in early February and would be closed, so it cannot be ESL’s major public esports event to be held in Katowice, Poland, in late February and early March. Organizer ESL has announced that it will be holding a Fortnite tournament here together with Epic Games with a total of $600,000 to win. It is Fortnite’s first time as part of the major annual Katowice event.
