Asus unveils ROG Chimera laptop with 144Hz screen
Asus has announced the ROG Chimera. With this laptop with 17.3″ screen, the company is targeting gamers. The screen is a 144Hz version, with support for Nvidia G-Sync, so that game images would be displayed smoothly.
In addition to the 144Hz refresh rate and G-Sync support, the screen offers a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a response time of 7ms. The latter suggests that it is an IPS panel, since tn panels usually offer lower response times.
An Intel Core i7-7820HK drives the Chimera and this quadcore can be easily overclocked thanks to the unlocked multiplier, according to Asus standard up to 4.3GHz. The video card is the GeForce GTX 1080 from Nvidia. The laptop includes support for Xbox Wireless, allowing players to pair their Xbox accessories. Asus hasn’t announced more details about the laptop yet, so it’s still speculation about price and availability.
Asus announced two more gaming laptops in the ROG Strix series. The company already showed these models during the Computex in Taiwan. The Strix Hero Edition is mainly intended for moba games. This laptop comes in versions with the Intel Core i7-7700HQ and the Core i5-7300HQ, and with the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 and the GTX 1050. The 15.6″ screen is an IPS panel and offers a refresh rate of 120Hz and a 1080p resolution.
The ROG Strix Scar gets the same CPU and GPU options. However, it does not only come in a 15.6″ version, but also in a 17.3″ variant. The 120Hz screens have tn panels, which gives them a response time of 5ms.
