Google is working on a mute function for websites in Chrome browser
Google is working on a new feature in Chrome that will allow users to mute entire websites. This is already possible for individual tabs, but the difference is that this way of muting is not permanent.
Google developer François Beaufort reports that the Chrome team is currently experimenting with the feature. This would allow users to decide which website is allowed to play sound and there is no need to set this again and again for a particular tab. The option is accessible via the button on the left side of the address bar, which also displays information related to the security of the connection to a site, for example.
It is currently still a feature in the unstable Canary version of the Chrome browser, but it should be released in the stable version at some point. There are already several extensions that fulfill the same function, which can also be found for Firefox. The feature can be enabled in the Canary build by launching the browser with a special command. Canary can be downloaded via a separate site.
