Google moves address bar to bottom in Chrome for Android beta

In the latest beta of Google Chrome for Android, the address bar has been moved to the bottom. This may mean that the input field will be lowered for all users in a future version of the browser.

The change has been made in the latest version of the beta that has been released on the Play Store. At the end of last year it was already possible to move the address bar down in the Chrome Dev version for Android and later that was also set as the default.

Now that the address bar is also at the bottom by default in the beta version, it seems that Google wants to implement the adjustment in the stable version of Chrome for Android in the long run. The relocation of the url bar is particularly practical when using a large smartphone with one hand.

The feature is called Chrome Home, although it’s unknown why it bears that name. Users of the stable release of Chrome for Android can also move the address bar to the bottom by going to chrome://flags in the browser and setting Chrome Home to Enabled. It is also possible to install Chrome Beta in addition to the stable release of the browser.
