Research: A quarter of Surface products suffer from problems after two years
Consumer Reports, a kind of American version of the Consumers’ Association, states that Microsoft’s Surface products are significantly more unreliable than competing products. Research found that a quarter of Surface products experienced problems after two years.
This is reported by Reuters news agency based on a study published by Consumer Reports. The survey included more than 90,000 laptops and tablets belonging to readers of the organization, from all kinds of brands. One of the conclusions of the study is that after two years of use, no less than a quarter of the Microsoft Surface products surveyed suffer from problems. It is not clear how many Surface products have been studied.
The organization states that because Microsoft is new to the hardware market, enough data has only now been collected to make a judgment about the Surface series. As a result of the investigation, Consumer Reports no longer recommends Microsoft’s Surface products. Where the organization previously recommended the Surface Laptop and Surface Book Pro as good buys, both products are now losing this status.
Several problems emerge from the research; Examples mentioned in the study include that the device spontaneously stops responding, that it shuts down unexpectedly, or on the contrary has problems with the touchscreen.
Microsoft has disputed the results of the investigation in a response to Reuters. The company says it knows other results, and states that the Consumer Reports research does not reflect reality well.
