Global meat processor paid $11 million ransom for ransomware
Meat processing company JBS has paid $11 million in ransom after the company was hit by ransomware. The company said so in a statement. The meat processor had to temporarily close slaughterhouses because of the ransomware.
JBS made the decision to pay after the company sought advice from IT experts and outside security consultants , the meat processor said in a statement . The payment was necessary, according to the company, to “reduce unforeseen problems caused by the attack and ensure that no data was stolen.”
The meat processor says it was able to quickly restart production by using redundant systems and encrypted servers as backup. The ransomware is believed to be from REvil. The FBI said so in a statement last week . REvil , also known as Sodinokibi, has been a well-known name in the ransomware field for years.
