You can use the iGet program on the Mac OS X platform to exchange files. This program was specially written for this platform and therefore contains a number of exclusive functions such as ‘remote Spotlight searching’ – searching through your own Mac for files that are on another Mac computer. The connections are provided with SSH security to prevent outsiders from having a look at your files. Nakahara Informatics has released version 2.6.1 with the following changes:

Version 2.6.1:

iGet 2.6.1 contains an important bug fix, correcting an issue which could cause iGet to unexpectedly quit.

Changes, fixes and improvements in this version:

• This version addresses an issue which could cause iGet to unexpectedly quit while browsing some networks using Bonjour (crash logs would reference “_netServiceBrowserDispatchCallback”). This problem was more likely to occur on LANs with many Macs.

Version 2.6:

iGet 2.6 is a maintenance update that improves recent-connection tracking, corrects several minor issues, and updates the software’s visual appearance with improved icons and graphics.

Changes, fixes and improvements in this version:

• The Recent Connections tab in the connection dialog now allows deleting unwanted items from the list (via the Delete key).
• Performance is improved when the number of recent connections is large (hundreds of different Macs).
• This version incorporates newer, more modern graphics and icons for the preferences, main toolbar, and contextual menus.
• Fixed a bug that sometimes caused iGet to replace the user-entered password with the last-used password at connect time. This would cause the first connection attempt to fail, when connecting to a Mac on which the password had been changed.
• Fixed a bug that would cause iGet not to ‘forget’ the public key authentication information, even after disabling public key authentication.
• Fixed two theoretical crash bugs discovered via code audit (ones which probably did not occur in the real world, but theoretically could have).
• Various identifiers and text in the user interface has been updated to reflect that iGet is now published by Nakahara Informatics, Inc.
• iGet’s preference handling code has been updated. Preferences will be migrated automatically, but are now stored in the preferences file named ‘com.nakahara-informatics.iget’ rather than ‘com.fivespeed.iget’.

Version 2.5.5:

iGet 2.5.5 is a maintenance release, featuring improvements to file browsing and bug fixes.

Fixes and improvements in this version:

• Fixed a bug that would sometimes cause iGet to open new windows in descending sort order (Z to A). New windows now correctly display in ascending sort order until changed by the user.
• By popular demand, iGet now defaults to descending sort when sorting by Date Modified, Date Created, or Size. (It turns out that this is the user’s intention in the vast majority of cases when sorting by these specific criteria, unlike sorting by Name, Kind, etc.).
• Fixed a potential crash that could occur when opening several different connections simultaneously.
• Improved performance when creating new windows, eliminating a slight delay that was noticeable on slower Macs (eg, G3 or G4 processors) in previous releases.

Version 2.5.4:

iGet 2.5.4 is a maintenance release, which corrects certain issues with resuming file transfers, and fixes several minor bugs.

Fixes and improvements in this version:

• Fixed a bug that in some circumstances would cause iGet to display a spurious error message (“This file is already being downloaded…”) and prevent resuming a file transfer until the user restarted iGet. This could occur when the Internet connection went down unexpectedly or the remote Mac was restarted during a file transfer.
• Corrected a problem where iGet might be unable to automatically connect when double-clicking a Mac in the Local Network browser. Instead it would log an exception to the console and do nothing. This bug would ‘fix itself’ after the user established a connection manually, but now it is really fixed.
• In some situations, previous versions of iGet could display two alert sheets, when in fact only one alert was necessary, eg when unplugging an Ethernet cable while transferring a file.
• Corrected an issue where iGet could display certain informational alerts that might contain inappropriate (PG-13 rated) language.
• Corrected a recent regression that could degrade performance when transferring many thousands of files at once, when a significant percentage included resource forks.
• Several performance enhancements have been realized.

Version 2.5.3:

iGet 2.5.3 is a maintenance release, which corrects certain issues with Automator support and adds some new documentation, including new step-by-step tutorials for setting up a home or office network for remote access, and tutorials for getting started with Automator.

Fixes and improvements in this build:

• Fixed a bug that could cause Automator workflows created with iGet to fail when the workflow executed long-running file transfers, even when the file transfer itself actually succeeded.
• Created new detailed tutorials for commonly-encountered networking scenarios, to help users set up their home or office networks for remote access. These tutorials address two of the most common questions we receive: how to set up port forwarding, and how to set up dynamic DNS. A basic networking primer is also included.
• Added tutorials based on user-supplied Automator workflows, to help interested users get started using iGet in their Automator workflows.

Version 2.5.2:

iGet 2.5.2 is a quick follow-up maintenance release which corrects some issues which were introduced in the recent iGet update, along with an older bug. This update is recommended for all iGet users.

Fixes and improvements in this build:

• Fixed a recently-introduced bug that would prevent the “Show/Hide Invisible Items” from taking effect immediately (would not take effect until a new file browsing window was created, or a new connection to a remote Mac was made.)
• Fixed a similar bug involving “Increase/Decrease Font Size” command, whereby the font would not change until another window was opened.
• Fixed a long-standing bug with that caused iGet to consider some remote files to be invisible, even when they were actually not. This bug affected certain files at the root level of a hard disk or in a FileVault home directory; if, for example, you are browsing a FileVault home directory on a remote Mac which contains a folder named “bin”, you no longer have to Show Invisible Items in order to see it.

Version 2.5.1:

iGet 2.5.1 is a maintenance release of the Mac file transfer tool. This release introduces enhancements to remote Spotlight search, offers improved user support, and corrects certain issues.

Fixes and improvements in this build:

• When searching a remote Mac using Spotlight, the search results list has been improved to make it easy to navigate to the parent folder of any item, the same way as it works for regular (non-search) directory listings.
• Improved the speed of remote searching in some circumstances.
• iGet now has an online support forum, and it is now available via the Help menu.
• Fixed a potential crasher due to undefined symbol in some (very uncommon) error cases.
• Corrected a potential display glitch involving windows that had been used to search a remote Mac but never had any results found before the connection was closed.
