Volvo subsidiary shows Android interface for upcoming Tesla Model 3 competitor
Volvo subsidiary Polestar has shown the Android interface for its upcoming Polestar 2, an electric car that will compete with the Tesla Model 3. Google Maps will be the standard navigation app in the car.

It is not about Android Auto, but an Android-based operating system with a custom interface, Polestar reports. Google services are part of the software, including Google Maps, Assistant and the Play Store. The intention is that the software will receive regular updates and upgrades for years to come. Polestar does not mention how the security of the software works.
Polestar has launched a progressive web app that allows users to click through a demo of the interface on a smartphone or tablet. The interface consists of four tabs, with the first tab showing a previously unseen image of the car itself. The second tab is for apps, the third for contacts, and the fourth for in-car controls. There is also a notification bar with shortcuts, toggles and notifications.
The Swedish Volvo subsidiary is slowly releasing more information about its next car. For example, the manufacturer also announces that it will be possible to unlock the car with the smartphone, just like the Tesla Model 3 can. Polestar seems to be pitching his car as a competitor for the latest Tesla anyway. The Swedish company will announce more about the car in the coming weeks, which should go into production later this year.
