The Matchstick company, which is building a competitor to the Chromecast media player, has launched a successful funding campaign. That means the Firefox OS gadget will be released. The first Matchsticks will be delivered next month.

With the funding campaign, the Matchstick company has an amount of $ 470,000 fetched. Converted, that is about 372,000 euros. Initially, only $100,000 was requested. Thanks to the successful Kickstarter campaign, the first backers can expect their HDMI stick next month. This is still a developer version. The final version is expected in February next year.

Matchstick has collaborated with Mozilla to develop the media player of the same name, which is similar in concept to Google’s Chromecast. The latter developed the Firefox OS operating system, which was used as the basis for the Matchstick. Mozilla had previously announced that it would come up with such a media player. The Matchstick is equipped with a Rockchip 3066 dual-core soc, 1GB of ram and 4GB of storage capacity.

Now that the HDMI stick from Matchstick and Mozilla is being released, it is likely that it will eventually be available in stores. However, no date has yet been announced for its release. The price is already known: the Matchstick has to be paid 25 dollars. It was $18 during the Kickstarter campaign.
