Developers cease development music player Winamp
The makers behind Winamp have announced that they are stopping development. The music player can still be downloaded from the site until December 20, after which it will go black. Winamp has been around for 15 years now.
The news about the discontinuation of the Winamp software was reported by the makers through the official website announced. However, a reason behind stopping development was not mentioned. The website is still available until December 20, which means that after this date the music player can no longer be downloaded through the official channels. Nullsoft, developer of the music player and owned by AOL, advises users to download the latest version of Winamp before December 20.
Although no reason was given, Nullsoft may halt development due to the increased popularity of streaming music services such as Spotify. Winamp probably also has a lot of problems with competitors that sell their own music, such as Apple’s iTunes and Google’s Play Store.
Winamp has been around for almost 15 years and has been a popular music player for the Windows platform for many years. The player was later also given the option to play video and streaming audio was offered via the Shoutcast service. The makers have now also released an app for Android, with which music can be synchronized wirelessly with a laptop or desktop, among other things.
