Bandai Namco is working on a new Ace Combat game
A new Ace Combat game is in the works. Publisher Bandai Namco is working on this in collaboration with ILCA. The latter is a Japanese developer who previously helped produce Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.
Substantive details about the new Ace Combat game are not yet available and it is not yet clear when the game will be released. According to Gematsu Bandai Namco and ILCA announced the project at a Japanese celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Ace Combat series.
Kazutoki Kono, producer of the Ace Combat games, says his team is involved in the development of the new game, but the team is too small to do it alone. That is why the help of ILCA is called in. He describes the future game as “a new era” for the series.
ILCA is the studio that makes Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl. These are Switch remasters of the Nintendo DS version of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl from 2006. The Japanese studio also helped create graphics for Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age.
Three million copies of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown have now been shipped. That game came out in early 2019. The games in the series are set in a fictional setting and can be seen as fighter jet arcade flight sims.
