Nvidia has released a new driver version for the Titan Xp and the recent Quadro series of video cards. With the new drivers, these video cards can also be used in external GPU housings. The Titan Xp would also perform better in certain programs due to the update.

Nvidia announced during the Siggraph event that the company is adding egpu support with driver version 385.12. The affected Quadro series cards are the P4000, P5000, P6000 and GP100. The external GPU support was already present on other cards with GPUs based on the Pascal architecture. The recent Quadro cards and the Titan Xp are also built around Pascal GPUs. With the update, the Quadro and Titan Xp cards can be used to provide, for example, laptops with graphics processing power with an external video card housing. Nvidia reports to release its own housing for external GPUs in September.

Furthermore, the new drivers should improve performance in some prosumer programs; Nvidia cites Vegas Pro and Adobe Premier Pro as examples. The company also says that the Maya animation program with the Titan Xp should perform three times better after update. The new driver is also available for the Titan X, the predecessor of the Xp.
