Samsung gives older Gear 3 and Gear Sport smartwatch a solid software update
Samsung has released an important update for its somewhat older smartwatches Gear 3 and Gear Sport. The software includes a number of new fitness and health features, and an improved interface.
Version 4.0.0.2 of the Tizen operating system is a free update for the Gear S3 Frontier/Classic and Gear Sport from 2016 and 2017 respectively. The biggest innovation relates to Samsung Health, which now includes indoor workouts and also offers a function to to combine training sessions if you do several activities in succession. The Health widget has been expanded with information about the different sleep phases.
Also new on these somewhat older clocks are the Theater and Sleep modes for the moments when the wearer does not want to be disturbed by calls and notifications. These functions can be operated via the renewed Quick Panel, which has become somewhat easier to access in Tizen 4.0.0.2. Furthermore, the possibility to change music source on the watch itself, the function to save draft messages and the support for more than a thousand emoji are worth mentioning.
The new software for the clocks is currently only being rolled out in the US, but 9to5Google expects other countries to follow soon.
