WhatsApp lets Android users send all file types to each other
WhatsApp has started releasing an update that will allow users to send all file types to contacts. The functionality has been added to the most recent version of WhatsApp for Android. The functionality is not yet available in the iOS version.
In the Play Store, WhatsApp reports in the release notes that sending documents has been added. WhatsApp has been working on improving functionality for some time; in June, some users already reported being able to send files.
The Document button in WhatsApp’s share menu is not new, but previously it was only possible to send certain file types such as PDFs and text files. Now all files can be sent, such as apk’s and zip files.
The function also makes it possible to send photos without compression. If users share a photo in the usual way, it will be automatically resized. By selecting the jpg file and sending it as a file, the original format is preserved.
The iOS version of WhatsApp does not support file sending yet. There is an option to choose to send documents, but then you can only choose iCloud or Google Drive, for example.
According to previous reports from XDA Developers, there is a maximum file size of 100MB for Android, 64MB for the web version of WhatsApp and 128MB for iOS.
