With the help of computer users around the world, the distributed computing project Seventeen or Bust is trying the smallest Sierpinski number to prove. Over the years, most values have been excluded, except for seventeen values that remained. So Seventeen or Bust was founded to check the remaining values. To this day, eleven of the seventeen values have already been ruled out, but the other six values have not yet been proven. The developers released a new version of the client a few days ago which, since the previous release in March, is based on the well-known client of Gimps. The version number of the SoB client has been aligned with the Gimps client and has therefore arrived at 25.11. The following announcement tells all about this new release:

NEW SB CLIENT v25.11 AVAILABLE

UPDATED Prime95 client available for SB Thanks to more great work by George Woltman, there is now a new version of SB available for download.

Major Enhancements

  • Zero-padded FFTs are about 3-4% faster. All our tests use Zero-padded FFTs so everyone should see a modest speed boost.
  • Hourly check-in times now available for those who want more timely statistics
  • FreeBSD client now available
  • Linux/FreeBSD – libcurl no longer required (now statically linked)

If you’re upgrading from the last version of SB (released in March), you should keep using your current prime.txt file. But if this is your first move to the new client, open the prime.txt file and put your username in the appropriate place. That’s it.

As always, drop by the forums if you run into any trouble or have questions about the new client.
