Download NewsBin Pro 6.00 build 1007 RC 4

The fourth release candidate of NewsBin Pro version 6.00 has been released. This program is intended to retrieve files such as photos, movies and programs from usenet. These files can be downloaded in individual packets from one or more news servers and reassembled at the receiving end. In version 6.00, the user interface has been overhauled; it now uses tabs. There is also a Cache to Memory option which, if a machine has ample memory, reduces constant access to the hard drive. However, on machines with fewer resources, this can be turned off better. The changelog for this release looks like this:

Changes in version 6.00 Release Candidate 4 Build 1007 :

• Fixed processing of .xtm files
• Streamlined installer: removed up to 3 pop-up screens depending on the logic path.
• Reset GUI is now a checkbox, off by default and not listed if no workspace.xml exists
• Please report if anything unexpected happens when using the installer.
• Removed option to set Chunks folder. You should rarely see chunks (.NB2 files) anymore since
• they are cached in memory now by default.
• Changed “Send to Folder” in the Groups tab to prevent sending groups to a custom list.
• Changes to fix some missing items for language translations.
• Fixed Mark Old background mode
• Disabled auto-update by default. If you use auto-update, you’ll need to turn it back on again.
• This was done to give people time to import 5.x headers on initial upgrade to V6.
• Also means that auto-download settings are not backward compatible. If you use a .nbi with
• V6 then try to use it with V5.x, you will lose your auto download settings.
• Added logic to better handle if a news server delivers bad article numbers.
• Restored support for old .rar file formats, ie .rar, .r01, .r02, etc.
• Reformated the registration key entry dialog a little.

Upgrade NOTES:

You will want to say “Yes” to the option to “Reset Version 6 GUI?” from the installer (delete workspace.xml) with this one.

Version 6 has a new storage format for headers. You have to manually invoke the conversion if you want to bring your 5.5x headers into V6. A new spool folder, SPOOL_V6 will be created for storing headers. To invoke the conversion, select a group or a bunch of groups in the Groups tab, right-click and select Post Storage, then choose “Import Version 5.XX Headers”. A progress screen will pop up and you’ll have to wait for it to finish before continuing.
