Half-Life: Alyx mod makers are working on remake of GoldenEye 007 in VR
Several Half-Life: Alyx mod makers are working on a modification of GoldenEye 007, in the form of a remake of the classic 1997 Nintendo 64 shooter. The first two missions of the original GoldenEye have largely been released.
The creators of the mod called Goldeneye Alyx 007 have so far Dam and facility released on Steam. Dam is the name of the first mission from the original GoldenEye 007 and was an introduction to the game. This mission has been released in two parts and part three will probably follow soon. The Facility mission was previously available on Steam; this was the second mission from GoldenEye 007. The original soundtrack is present and the mod’s various missions are released as add-ons to Half-Life: Alyx.
Goldeneye Alyx 007 is not an exact copy of the original; Half-Life: Alyx remains the basics. The vast majority of elements such as the terrain and playing fields have been recreated from GoldenEye 007, but the characters are still straight from Half-Life: Alyx. As a player you therefore take on the role of Alyx Vance, although she is called Alyx Bond here. And the enemies are not Russian soldiers, but Combine soldiers. Furthermore, certain gameplay elements such as the interaction with the environment are taken from the Half-Life VR title. The mod’s creators say they’ve built in dynamic AI and that the difficulty level is deliberately quite high. The graphics have also been significantly improved.
Incidentally, this modification is certainly not the first time that a modern adaptation of the original GoldenEye 007 has been made. GoldenEye Source, a remake of the multiplayer part. In addition, there is GoldenEye 25, an Unreal Engine-based remaster of the single player campaign, set to be completed by August 2022. The original GoldenEye 007 will be 25 years old.
