Epic Games Development Fund Donates $275,000 to 17 Studios
Game studio Epic Games has given away a total of $ 275,000 to 17 different small development studios. There are no conditions attached to the amounts of money, except that the developers must work with the company’s Unreal Engine 4.
The recipients of the funds are not all game developers. For example, there are also filmmakers and a studio that makes analytics plugins for the Unreal Engine. The $275,000 is converted to 246,000 euros. The specific amounts that each developer will receive are not disclosed, but on average it is 14,500 euros per developer.
Most of the recipients are game developers. The games they make come out for Windows, iOS and Android. Some games are also made for virtual reality headsets, such as Raiders of Erda and The Soulkeeper. The movie that will receive a grant from Epic Games is called Tree and also uses vr. It will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and will also be shown at the Cannes Film Festival in France. Finally, one of the remaining two developers is working on technology to map and transfer three-dimensional spaces
to be converted to virtual reality.
Epic Games detailed in a blog post which developers will get the money and what they will do with it. The fund has been in existence since early 2015, when Epic Games invested a total of $5 million. Developers can get $5,000 to $50,000 from the game maker if their Unreal Engine project is interesting enough in the eyes of the studio. Epic Games does this every six months.
