YouTube gaming channel Machinima sets all its videos to private
YouTube channel Machinima has set all its videos to private. Parent company Otter Media says it wants Machinima to focus on new content, to be distributed through new channels in the coming months.
The channel’s videos were shielded last Saturday and the explanation was given to Kotaku, among others, shortly afterwards. At this point, nothing has been reported about the ability to archive the Machinima content.
Machinima means using real-time graphics engines, like in games, to create videos. That was one of the things the Machinima network focused on: videos made in games, intended as entertainment for gamers. Examples include Gamer Poop, Two Best Friends Play, and Freeman’s Mind. The videos were uploaded on Machinima sub-channels.
Machinima was founded in 2000 and was acquired by Warner Bros. in 2016 after multiple investments. Warner Bros. manages Machinima through Otter Media and Warner Bros. is itself a subsidiary of the American telco AT&T. The channel has 12 million subscribers and was fifth in the ranking of most subscribed YouTube channels in 2012, according to Wikipedia.
