We’re posting another tweaked firmware today, this time for the NEC ND-2500 and ND-2510 DVD burners. Herrie has his latest hacked firmware on the CD Freaks forum posted† It concerns version 108 for the ND-2500 and version 208 for ND-2510, both of which are in a file be seated. After flashing your NEC drive with this hacked firmware, you should be able to burn practically any 4x DVD disc at 6x or 8x speed. Herrie has put together the following release notes:

After a long period of absence I found some time again to develop a new firmware for the NEC 25×0 series. Almost every commercially available 4x media should work at 6x or 8x now! The whole media tables have been rewritten from scratch, since NEC changed their firmware structure quite a bit. This firmware supports +R(W) and +R DL bitsetting and DL burning for both 2500 and 2510![break]
