Valve fansite ValveTime.net has revealed a number of screenshots taken from the canceled Half-Life 2: Episode Four. The game was in development at French Dishonored developer Arkane Studios.

According to Valve Time, the episode would also be called Return to Ravenholm. Ravenholm is the town in the Half-Life universe that has been overrun by people with headcrabs on their heads, turning them into zombies. The area is characterized by narrow, dark spaces and passages that are almost like a maze. The game would feature environments similar to a hospital and a prison. The environments that can be seen also all seem to be underground. The screenshots are from the portfolio of a developer who was employed by the studio around 2007 when Arkane was working on the game.

Half-Life 2: Episode Four would take place sometime before the end of Half-Life 2: Episode Two and the story would be separate from the story of Gordon Freeman and his struggle to free the world from the Combine. Development of Episode Four has been suspended and as far as we know Valve itself is not working on Episode Three either. In January of 2013, several images of Episode Four were also released. As for Half-Life 3: Valve boss Gabe Newell does not want to deny but also not confirm the development of the game. “The only way we’d make a classic like that again is if a bunch of people at Valve said they want to do it and for a good reason,” Newell said in March of 2015. The latest Half-Life game. that came out was Episode Two in 2007.
