Download Googlebar for Firefox/Mozilla 0.9.14.01

The Googlebar project was created to meet the high demand from the community for a Google toolbar for Netscape 7, Mozilla, and Firefox. Currently, Googlebar supports all basic functionality that can also be found in the Google product itself. Some functions are not included, such as the option to automatically fill in forms and the popup blocker. However, that’s because the popup blocker is already in the browser itself and there are good extensions like AutoForm and AutoFill to fill out forms.

A few days ago, the developers of the bar released a new experimental version of Googlebar and assigned it version number 0.9.14.01. In this release, which is available for Firefox and Mozilla Suite, improvements have been made to GMail support, among other things. The full changelog looks like this:

GMail modifications

  • GMail now only notifies (via sound) if there really are new email messages and not just based on the count of unread messages
  • Prevent drop down menu options from also running the button command, prevent event bubbling
  • Drop down menu options under GMail button for unread email messages now navigate directly to the unread message, rather than to the inbox
  • about:config option (googlebar.gmailHome) which lets power users set their GMail home page to be the basic HTML interface

Other modifications

  • Added a handful of reworked icons, thanks Bob.
  • Fixed thumbnail images messed up by Google link tracking
  • Prevent Google News and other search pages from brass up the search-for-selected-text functionality
  • Attempt to get rid of document.getSelection deprecation errors when looking for text selection in browser
  • Added link under main menu (“G”) to Personalized Google Home Page
