Sony closes PlayStation studio PixelOpus, known for Concrete Genie
Sony is closing its PixelOpus PlayStation studio next month. That studio was founded in 2014 and is best known for the PS4 game Concrete Genie. The studio has reportedly been working on a PS5 game with Sony Pictures Animation for four years.
Sony says in a statement to Engadget, among others that based on a ‘recent review process’ that looked at the status of PlayStation studios’ projects to gauge whether they were meeting their ‘short and long-term goals’, it was decided to close the doors of PixelOpus. It’s not clear what this means for the PS5 game the studio according to previous posts worked with Sony Pictures Animation since 2019. On Twitter confirms PixelOpus the closure, and thanks the players for all the support.
PixelOpus was founded by Sony in 2014 and has since released two games: twin-stick rhythm game Entwined and Concrete Genie, an artistic game where players create murals that come to life. PixelOpus was one of PlayStation’s smallest studios, with fewer than twenty employees in 2019.
