Firefox gets built-in features to distinguish fake reviews from real ones
Mozilla gives Firefox functions to distinguish fake reviews online from real reviews, the browser builder claims. That will come from an acquisition of Fakespot, a company that makes browser extensions and apps that already do.
Future features of Fakespot will land in the browser, says Mozilla. The company does not say when that will happen or what functions it will involve. Fakespot is a browser extension that uses artificial intelligence to try to distinguish fake reviews from real ones. Those extensions have been available for download for years for browsers such as Firefox, Chrome and Edge.
After the acquisition, Fakespot will continue to work on other browsers. It also continues to support its own apps, says the company. Fakespot was founded in 2016 and has since received various investments. It’s an American company.
