TCL announces new TVs with more dimming zones and 240Hz mode
TCL has announced its European TV models for 2023. These are LCD televisions, equipped with Google TV. Compared to their predecessors, the more expensive models have more mini-LED dimming zones. In addition, there is a new 240Hz mode, intended for PC gaming.
TCL is announcing three new TV models in the midrange and high-end price range this week, the C645, C745 and C845. Several other models will follow later this year, including the top-class C95 and X95 series, but TCL is not yet announcing specifications or prices for the models.
C645
The C645 is the direct successor to the C635 (review) from 2022 and promises a doubling of the brightness to 700cd/m² compared to that model. The TV has two HDMI 2.1 inputs with vrr and allm support. The C645 is equipped with a 60Hz PVA panel, which can also operate at 120Hz in full HD mode. The C645 supports FreeSync and supports both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Like TCL’s other TVs, the C645 uses Google TV as its operating system. The TV will be available this month in 43, 50, 55, 65 and 85 inches with suggested retail prices of 499, 499, 599, 799 and 1699 euros.

C745
Above the C645 comes the new C745. This model features a false backlight with 120, 160 and 220 zones respectively for the 55″, 65″ and 75″ variants. The TV promises a peak brightness of 1000cd/m². The C745 models use PVA panels with a native refresh rate of 144Hz, with the ability to run at 240Hz in Full HD mode. The TVs feature an enhanced AiPQ Engine that promises color, contrast, brightness and sharpness optimization. The C745 series will will be on sale from next month and is available in 55, 65 and 75 inches with suggested retail prices of 799, 999, and 1499 euros.

C845
The top model for the first half of this year is the C845. Compared to the C745, this TV offers a mini LED backlight with 480, 576, 720 and 896 zones for the 55″, 65″, 75″ and 85″ models respectively. The maximum brightness of the C845 should be 2000cd/m² according to TCL. In terms of panel technology and control, the C845 appears to be the same as the C745. This model is also equipped with the same AiPQ Engine and 144Hz panels that can also work in 240Hz in full HD mode. The C845 will be available from May in 55, 65, 75 and 85 inches with suggested retail prices of 1099, 1399, 1999 and 2299 euros.

Update 4/18 3:55pm: An earlier version of this post stated that the C745 and C845 will also be available in 98 inches. TCL has now informed us that this will not be the case and that it will not announce new 98 inch televisions until later this year.
