Kuo: Apple will begin mass-producing 27″ miniLED monitor in 2024 or 2025
Apple is still working on a 27-inch monitor with mini LED backlight, claims TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Mass production of the screen would start no later than early 2025. The monitor must, among other things, get a glass backplane for thinner screen edges.
Ming Chi Kuo writes on Twitter that Apple will start mass production of its new 27″ monitor “in 2024 or early 2025″. The screen will be equipped with a mini LED backlight, just like the current iPad Pro 12.9”. The current Apple Pro Display XDR and Studio Display monitors still have a regular LED backlight. Furthermore, Apple would provide the new 27-inch mini-LED monitor with a glass backplane. As a result, the screen should have a thinner panel, in addition to thinner screen edges and a longer lifespan, the analyst says.
The screen must “get all the features of a high-end monitor,” Kuo reports. Previous rumors state that the screen will get ProMotion with a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The screen would also be equipped with an Apple Silicon soc. The current Studio Display screen, which Apple released in March last year, also features an A13 Bionic chip. That soc is used for the processing of images and sound.
The message from Kuo, who more often shares information about Apple products early, follows a paid Twitter post from DSCC analyst Ross Young. Young recently stated that Apple has removed the mini-LED monitor from its schedule “for now”. Young initially expected the alleged screen to be released in 2022 and later revised that expectation to the first quarter of this year.
