Rumor: Samsung won’t give Galaxy Z Fold5 slot for S Pen

Samsung does not give the Galaxy Z Fold5 a slot for the S Pen. That claims the South Korean site ETNews. The manufacturer mainly focuses on making the housing thinner, and does not want to make room for the stylus.

The Z Fold5 is 13.4mm when closed, thinner than the 14.2mm of the Fold4, claims ETNews. In addition, Samsung is switching to a teardrop shape for the hinge, which allows the housing to close completely, without a gap between the two parts of the housing.

The Z Fold phones support the S Pen, but unlike the S Ultra phones, there’s no slot for it in the case. That does not happen with the Fold5, the site says. In addition to limiting the thickness, Samsung also wants to limit the weight. The current prototype comes in at 254g.

Samsung has released its Fold phones in August every year in recent years. It is unknown if that will happen again this year, but it is likely. Samsung itself has not yet announced anything about a possible successor to the Fold4.
