Spotify CEO: ‘Live audio will be new Stories’
Daniel Ek, the Swedish CEO of music service Spotify, states that live audio applications will soon be included in many platforms. He made the comparison with the Stories functionality that Snapchat introduced, but has since been included in many apps.
During the announcement of the latest financial results, investors wanted to know the exact plans for the newly acquired audio app Locker Room, which has since been renamed The Green Room. To this, Ek explained that his focus will be on live audio.
Daniel Ek explains in a letter to shareholders that his focus will be on live audio and during the presentation he said that live audio content will soon be available on every major internet platform. “It will be comparable to the Stories functionality. You can find it today on multiple platforms including Spotify, Instagram, Snap and others,” says Ek. “I also think that live audio content creators will move to the platforms where they can nurture the best relationship with their fans.”
Since the Clubhouse app’s popularity rose early last year, several social media platforms have been busy building similar live audio functionality into their apps. For example, Facebook will introduce Live Audio Rooms in the summer, a function that will allow users of a Facebook group to talk live with each other. Twitter and LinkedIn have also started integrating live audio on their platforms.
